The mayor of Villena, Fulgencio Cerd\u00e1n, and the first deputy mayor, Francisco Iniesta, accompanied by the mayor of Urbanism, Javier Mart\u00ednez, today visited the facilities of the Catafruit company, of Grupo Catal\u00e1 in Villena to see first-hand the operation and your plans for the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first mayor expressed to those responsible for the company the support that the City Council of Villena is offering to the agri-food sector, \u201cbecause we are aware that our agriculture is part of our history, but also of our future. We have thriving companies in this sector, with the capacity to generate wealth, employment and a lot of muscle for export \u201d. From his point of view, the impulse of Villena as a logistics node will be very important for the development of the agricultural sector because it will be able to improve competitiveness and production due to its proximity to distant markets, mainly in central Europe.<\/p>\n

For his part, the first deputy mayor, Francisco Iniesta, considers that “from the City Council we have been working to promote many agricultural products produced in our municipal area, as a model of defense of our territory and our environment.”<\/p>\n

Catafruit has two farms in Villena, Los Frutales and El Pino, which mainly produce cherries, apples, pears, flat peaches and plums. The Group’s facilities in Villena cover 7,000 square meters and have a cold storage capacity of 5,000 tons.<\/p>\n
